The countdown has begun, and Joliet, Illinois, the home of
the well-known duo Joliet Jake and Elwood Blues of the
“Blues Brothers”, will be called home for all singers and
friends during the 2009 Serbian Singing Federation Annual
Festival.
We, the SSS Mita Topalovich, are very excited and looking
forward to being your hosts for this coming Festival. We are
anxiously awaiting your arrival to join us May 22 – 24,
2009. We are already hard at work and under the direction of
our two wardens or co-chairpersons, for this glorious event,
Alexandra Starcevich and Michelle Efatoski. Our small, but
mighty, Mita group is ready and willing to take on the
various tasks assigned to them by Alex and Michelle to
assure you that your “Doin’ Time in Joliet” is a weekend you
won’t forget! Our guards or committee members are as

For everyone’s ease and convenience we will be housing all
the weekend festivities at our own St. George Serbian Social
Center. We are very confident that our Center will be the
ideal place for both the Festival Concerts on Saturday and
Sunday, and also for socializing at the welcome dance Friday
evening, Saturday evening dance, the banquet Sunday
afternoon, and for our farewell get together on Sunday as
well. Your jailhouse entertainment will be as follows:
Friday night: The Bajich Brothers Orchestra; Saturday night:
Sumadija in the dance hall and Drina in the bar; Sunday
Banquet Veselo Selo (our St. George Tamburashi) and Sunday
also Drina in the bar. We also promise to provide all of you
with some unforgettable meals for the weekend!
Lodging arrangements and shuttle service information for the
weekend are being finalized and will be provided to you as
soon as possible. Please keep a watch out for ad book

2009 Serbian Singing Federation Festival.

The Mita Topalovich Choir and the St. George Serbian
Orthodox Church Parish of Joliet, Illinois
have been bestowed the honor of serving as hosts of the 68th
Annual Serbian Singing Festival.
This annual event brings together all church and concert
choirs for a truly resounding and
exciting weekend of choral music and social activity. Vocal
groups from across the United
States and Canada will be represented, which could total
around 20 choirs traveling to Joliet
Memorial Day Weekend, May 22, 23, 24, 2009. We will have an
excellent opportunity to
demonstrate our Midwest hospitality as we accommodate our
guests. In addition, we want all
of our area residents, officials and business leaders to be
a part of this excellent music
experience.
Hosting the Serbian Singing Festival is a major undertaking
and we are seeking your help,
support and co-operation to make it successful. The Mita
Topalovich Choir would be most
grateful and appreciative for whatever donations and
contributions you could make toward our
undertaking. We especially invite you to participate and to
join us in making our Program Book
a true reflection of our Joliet community spirit and unity
of the Greater Chicagoland and
Midwest Area. This book will have nation wide distribution,
and we want our Program Book to
be memorable as well!

Mita Topalovich AD BOOK Committee extends its gratitude,

Please have your choir put together or purchase a gift of
value to be auctioned at the upcoming festival in Joliet. If
your choir cannot attend, try to make arrangements to have a
gift sent with a neighboring choir or attendee.
Bidding will be ongoing until 10 P.M. on Saturday. The board
will then determine the winners and announcements will
follow. This was very successful in Detroit at the 75th and
we are hoping to repeat that success. We hope you will join
in this fund-raising effort.
