SERBIAN SINGING FEDERATION CHORAL WORKSHOP is a three-day seminar for both director and singer that will enlighten and inform participants in musical instruction. The development and uniqueness of Serbian music, both liturgical and secular, is its primary focus. The Sunday Divine Liturgy affords workshop participants the opportunity to implement what they have learned by either directing or singing. The workshop site rotates around the North American continent to enable all singers an opportunity to participate

Windsor, Ontario – Canada Several months have passed since the Serbian Singing Federation’s 39th Choral Workshop. Gracanica Choir of Windsor hosted this historic “recording” event from August 9-12, 2007.
It is amazing what a group of amateur singers from both the Serbian Orthodox Choral Association and the Serbian Singing Federation from the U.S. and Canada were able to accomplish in such a limited timeframe. However, much needs to be said about the Music Faculty who made it all happen with Dr. Stevan “Rick” Zivic as coordinator. We contribute the success of the Choral Workshop to Dr. Nikola Resanovic, Professor Milutin Lazich, Snezana Lazich and Dimitrie Lazich (who graciously stepped in to replace Dr. Zivic).
The day before our first session, we learned of Rick’s unfortunate health tribulations that sent him to the hospital. This occurred on the Wednesday and Friday he walked into the Serbian Community Centre. One had to be there to experience the sentiments. We all stood up, sang zivio to Rick and approached him with hugs and well wishes. It was an emotional moment for all of us as I am sure it was for Rick. Not even heart surgery was able to keep this man from his passion – friendships, music and the choral workshop. On behalf of all of us, we extend Rick our very best and hope he continues in good health.
As you know, Dr. Resanovic arranged the music to the words of St. Nikolai Velimirovic. Prior to singing the music, we learned the meaning of the songs. Understanding what it all meant brought tears for many of us as we intoned and internalized the vocabulary. The meaning of the words was so powerful that it influenced our singing thereby producing a high quality “Duhovna Lira” Cd.
The CD was so successful that 500 were sold in approximately six weeks. We recently received another 500 CDs. With the holiday season upon us, most of us indulge in spending too much, eating too much and complaining too much not to mention giving in to other temptations. None of us are immune.
Having said that, I urge you to enrich your spiritual life and/or the lives of those whom you love, by purchasing the “Duhovna Lira” CD. Draw strength from the words written by our beloved Saint. I recently read about a message on an old gravestone in an English cemetery that says it well: “What I spent, I had. What I saved, I lost.
